Why Grit?
In our fast-paced world, the mental health of our children is at stake. The relentless drive to “be the best” can leave kids feeling inadequate, isolated, and hopeless. Grit Pile Kidz is about teaching kids to be intrinsically gritty—helping them understand that they don’t have to be perfect; they just need to keep trying, learning, and growing. Resilience is a skill that can save lives—and it starts with us as parents.
Grit is the combination of perseverance and passion for long-term goals. It is the unwavering determination and resilience to keep going, even in the face of challenges, setbacks, or failures. Being intrinsically gritty means finding motivation from within, staying committed to your goals not because of external pressure, but because of a deep, personal drive to improve and succeed. Grit involves staying focused, putting in consistent effort over time, and embracing the hard work required to grow. No matter how difficult the journey may be, find a way!
Our Mission
At Grit Pile Kidz, we strive is to inspire children to discover their unique potential, ignite their passions, and build the self-confidence and resilience needed to overcome challenges and fearlessly pursue their dreams. We believe that all motivation begins with a spark of passion—an essential ingredient for developing grit, independence and the perseverance to achieve success. Through our empowering books and resources for parents, teachers, and coaches, we aim to shift the focus from societal pressures to personal growth, helping children embrace their journey with the right mindset and inner drive.
Through extensive research and conversations with top athletes, we’ve learned that resilience and confidence are not innate traits—they are skills that can be nurtured through perseverance, dedication, and a genuine love for what you do. By teaming up with the athletes and sharing their powerful success stories, we aim to inspire and cultivate these qualities in children. Teaching kids to embrace failures as valuable opportunities for growth, enabling them to develop a strong sense of self-belief, emotional strength and independence.
Our goal is to provide engaging tools and programs that help build a foundation of grit, passion, and resilience for every child.

Meet the Dads Behind a New Children’s Book About Grit: Former NHL Star Matt Moulson & Hockey Coach Greg Presseau
Instilling intrinsic grit in children is a high priority for parents but can feel like one of the more elusive goals of parenting. A new parent-founded publisher, Grit Pile Kidz, is sharing stories that instill passion and help kids find and build that all-important grit. Greg Presseau is a longtime hockey coach in addition to this day job in finance, and cofounded Grit Pile Kidz with illustrator Anika Charron who is leading a team in residential Real Estate. Their first subject and athlete contributor? Former NHL star Matt Moulson, who played 650 games in the league, including for the New York Islanders, Los Angeles Kings, Buffalo Sabres and Minnesota Wild. Now a dad of two, Matt is sharing his story with “Coach Greg” in MattyMo’s Grit Pile, now also available in paperback.
Grit Pile Kidz: Third Book in Series Coming This Spring/Summer!
We are thrilled to share that we are in the final stages of planning for our third book, set to be published later this spring/early summer. Currently, we are evaluating potential collaborating athletes and their inspiring stories to find the perfect fit for the planned storyline focused on accountability and finding a way.
Our first book “MattyMo’s Grit Pile” explored the themes of grit and commitment, while the second book “Komo’s Grit Engine” highlighted the importance of discovering your passion. This upcoming addition to the series will continue to inspire young readers with powerful lessons about owning your actions, overcoming obstacles, and forging a path toward success.
